The BEST ways to get into the autumn spirit

In Britain, we call it Autumn, in America, it’s known as Fall. We might differ in terms, but at least we can agree with some things: the leaves changing colour and falling from the trees is simply beautiful – but we would all be falling ill without having our winter gloves at the ready! During the autumn months, we are given the first signs that winter is on its way. It’s a time for snuggling up by the fire with a cosy blanket, winter pyjamas, fluffy socks, a chocolate selection box and, of course, a marshmallow-topped hot chocolate.

Today is officially the first day of the Autumn Equinox and it’s time to get into the spirit of the season with a little creativity and a lot of warm clothing!

Enjoy the outdoors

Before the winter weather takes over, rescue last year’s winter boots from the back of your wardrobe and wrap up in your gloves, scarf and winter hat to take a long, cool woodland walk to witness the magic of the changing leaves for yourself. Relax and breathe in the crisp chill of the air while cleansing your favourite gemstones in the autumn sunshine. Watching the leaves gracefully dancing around you and hearing the crunch of the colourful leaves beneath your feet is even more therapeutic than people watching!

The world around you is meditation-worthy, incredibly photogenic and appreciating it all is the perfect way to live in the moment and take away the stresses of life. Don’t forget to take an umbrella, just in case!

Bonfires, bonfires, bonfires

It’s too cold for sweating and too warm for frostbite – what could be better?! Make the most out of your garden, yard or other outdoor space and decorate it with some twinkling fairy lights or lanterns and a warm, comfy seat. Wrap up with your dressing gown, woolly boots and a (very) warm blanket and spend some time in nature with a good book and a lit bonfire.

If you’re feeling sociable, why not invite some friends round for a hot chocolate – or something stronger! Add some Baileys for good measure. Get some marshmallows roasting over the fire and feel like a big kid by sharing your favourite spooky Halloween stories. Don’t forget to indulge yourself with the perfect autumn treat – s’mores!

Bringing the outdoors indoors

Decorate your home with seasonal charms, from pine cones (which look adorable when painted by the kids!), to acorns and conkers. Wash everything properly before using them around your home and arrange them in a decorative bowl for a perfect centre-piece. Why not create a vanilla-bean and candle decoration is perfect to make your home smell luscious. Cinnamon and red berries are other great scents to get you ready for winter! Treat your tastebuds fresh farm style

Toffee apples and caramel apples are the perfect treat at this time of year. Just poke a stick into each apple, put them upside-down on a tray and cover with melted toffee or caramel. Leave to chill in the fridge and enjoy! Why not visit a local farmers market or even collect the apples yourself at a fruit-picking farm for a lovely day trip. And don’t worry about leftovers! Apples will never go to waste as long as treats like apple pie and apple crumble exist…
